With software becoming more mature and advanced throughout the years, the discipline that is now a trendy job title within the industry, the Solutions Architect, has popped up with most major tech companies. What is a Solutions Architect exactly?

In this blog, we will be discussing the different points between a traditional software engineering position against a solutions architecture position, why they are needed and how you can become one if you’d like!

What is a Software Engineer?

This is a loaded question, and many different people have many different takes on this. For the context of this blog, a Software Engineer is someone that devotes their time to building software. They know the ins and outs of the system their team is responsible for and understand advanced topics when it comes to optimizing their services or domain space.

To generalize, a traditional Software Engineer’s responsibilities when it comes to a job are:

  • Being an expert about the domain space/services that your team is responsible for.
  • Writing and reviewing code to improve the services or build new features within the domain area your team is responsible for.
